· Hi all, new to the forum here. I'm currently thinking about buying a new accord sedan (lx) and am really getting hung up on the transmission options. My local dealer has a 6 speed for just over 20k and a CVT for 21k. My MAIN goal here would be getting better gas mileage as I'm currently User Interaction Count: · 60 Posts. #5 · . The CVT has been reprogrammed to act more like an auto transmission with shifts. · The CVT is a very nice automatic transmission. If you don't mind autos, the there's nothing to worry about with the CVT. If you have your heart set on three pedals, then the CVT won't satisfy -- get the 6-speed and enjoy it. Of course, the real dilemma is 6-speed with the L or the CVT with the turbo.

If the CVT goes, you can't even fix it, all you can do is replace it with a new unit that will cost no less than $, probably closer to 5. CVT 6-speed will have an infinite number of ratios (in theory) but will allow you to select distinct ratios for pretend manual shifting and hill-holding on long descents. They are most useful for the engine-braking feature on long descents; I've never seen anyone out-shift the tranny's computer during rapid acceleration. There are two basic transmission types in cars — automatic and manual. Both of these transmission types channel the power that is generated by the engine to the drive wheels. The notable exception is a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which is also known as a gearbox. A CVT is a metal case that’s filled with oil and contains gears.
Easier, Not as Expensive Design: Conventional automatic transmissions are extremely complicated and also can have hundreds of moving parts. CVTs contain a much. The CVT or continuously variable transmission has infinite gear ratios, but is it better than a standard automatic gearbox? Here are the pros and cons. Unlike conventional automatics, the CVT can change the gear proportion indefinitely to keep the engine running at peak efficiency. On the whole, the more gears.
